A Middle School Lesson

Emergence, green-up and migration; a lesson of observations around you.

Essential Question

What phenological events are happening around you? What can these observations tell you about your local ecosystem?

Objectives

At the end of the of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Understand what it means to be a naturalist and how to keep a field journal. 
  • Recognize signifcant phenological events in the field.
  • Collect detailed field notes and import findings to WyoBio.

Assessment

At the end of this unit, you will be able to assess students through:

  • The student's data collection.
  • The student's field notes and journal entries.

MS-LS2-1
Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availablity on organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem.

MS-LS2-2
Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among oganisms across multiple ecosystems.

Wyoming State Standards

SC8.1.5 Behavior and Adaptation

Students recongize behavior as a response of an organism to an internal or environmental stimulus and connect the characteristics and behaviors of an organism to biologic adaptation.
